HOUSTON, Texas – March 10, 2007 – Moira Price headlined the Springfield College contingent at the NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Houston’s Campus Recreational, Fitness, and Wellness Center this past weekend (March 8-10). She was one of six SC competitors.
Price, a sophomore from Berkeley Heights, N.J., became a three-time All-American. She scored 33 of Springfield’s 34 points, allowing SC to finish 27th of 52 as a team.
On Thursday, the first day of competition, Price finished 13th in the 50 free with a time of 24.25. She had a time of 24.22 in the prelims. That was good for four team points. On Friday, she placed seventh in the 100 breast with a time of 1:05.26. That was good for 12 team points. Then on Saturday, saving the best for last, she placed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.37. That gave the team an additional 17 points. In all three events, she earned All-America status.
Also on Saturday, sophomore diver Erin White (Glastonbury, Conn.) scored SC’s other team point by finishing 16th in the 3-meter diving event. One of three SC divers to compete in that event (most in the nation), White scored 373.40 points as an individual. Thus, White also became an All-American. SC’s other two divers were freshman Michelle Reggio (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who placed 21st with 333.45 points, and junior Melissa Nelson (Wallingford, Conn.), who placed 22nd with 329.35 points.
Two other swimmers also competed for SC. Sophomore Kallie Pottle (Brewer, Me.) finished 26th in the 100 back (1:00.81) on Friday, and 24th in the 200 back (2:10.20) on Saturday. Junior Emily Sheahan (Erin, N.Y.) finished 36th in the 500 free (5:16.14) on Thursday, and 40th in the 200 free (2:00.98) on Friday. All six SC participants in 2007 will return in 2008.
