Hilton Head, S.C. - March 19, 2014 - The Springfield College women's tennis team fell to Georgetown College, 9-0 on Wednesday in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The Pride won its first two matches in Hilton Head this week against St. Louis College of Pharmacy and Messiah, before falling to Georgetown of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Wednesday.
Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y>) fell by a score of 6-1, 6-0 in first singles, Sydney Streimer (Mystic, Conn.) fell 6-0 in the first set but made it close in the second with a score of 6-4. In No. 3 singles, Mel Thulin (Manchester Center, Vt.) fell 6-0, 6-0 while Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) fell 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles. In fifth and sixth singles, Alanna Grady (Springfield, Mass.) and Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.) fell by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.
Georgetown also swept all three doubles match ups. London and Foster fell in No. 1 double, 8-0, Ariana Shemms (Goshen , Conn.) and Thulin fell 8-2 and BriAnn Borus (Worcester, Mass.) and Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) fell in third doubles.
Springfield will wrap up play in South Carolina on Thursday, taking on Clarion at 8:00 a.m.
