Men's Swimming & Diving Downs Babson In Regular-Season Finale

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Feb. 12, 2005– Springfield College junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) broke the school record in one-meter diving for the second time in four meets as the Pride defeated Babson, 139-86, in the Linkletter Natatorium this afternoon.
Shaw, who eclipsed the 16-year school record in the event with a score of 308.70 at Williams on Jan. 22, bettered that mark today with a first-place score of 310.75.
The Pride, which won all but three events today, wrapped up the regular season with a 9-3 dual-meet record. SC competes in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Feb. 25-27 at MIT.
SC swept both diving events with freshman
Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) placing first in three-meter diving (308.65).
SC senior captain
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) was the only swimmer to win two individual events. He won the 50 freestyle (22.18) and the 500 freestyle (4:59.17). Other individual event winners included junior
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) in the 200 freestyle (1:48.68); senior
Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.) in the 100 butterfly (54.40), and freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) in the 100 backstroke (53.74).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
