Women's Track and Field Competes in Tufts Snowflake Classic

Erika Marks Medford, Mass. – March 31, 2012 - The Springfield College women’s track and field team competed in the Snowflake Classic on the campus of Tufts University Saturday. The event was non-team scoring meet and included institutions across all three NCAA Divisions.

Kelly Curtis and Amanda Martin were the top finishers for the Pride. Curtis won the 100 meter hurdles event in 15.55 seconds, edging out Christine Reed from Harvard. Springfield’s Alisha Ciolek finished fifth in the event at 16.78 seconds.

Martin leapt past the competition in the long jump, winning the event with a distance of 5.12 meters, while Curtis came in third at 4.98 meters. Martin added a second place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.04 meters. Brianna Hill took fifth in the same event, measuring 9.77 meters.

Erica Fisher notched a top five finish in the 10,000 meter run at 40:51.01, good for fourth place. In the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Emily Rund earned another fourth place spot for the Pride as she crossed the finish line in 13:48.20. Crystal Davis had a strong showing in the 400 meter dash, taking the sixth spot with a time of 1:01.50. Jenn Kapinos added a top ten in the 800 meter, finishing ninth and clocking in at 2:23.17.

Springfield also ran well in the relay events, taking first in the 4x100 meter event. The quartet of Davis, Elizabeth Saia, Erika Marks, and Laurie Jenkins teamed up for a time of 48.87 seconds and the win.

In the pole vault, Rhiann Duggan finished third with a height of 3.05 meters and Colleen Brague took fourth in the javelin with a throw of 36.30 meters. Michelle Angelo added an eighth place spot in the shot put, tossing 10.91 meters. The Pride is back in action next Saturday at Middlebury College.
