Meg Young Honored By The NEWMAC
, Sept. 21, 2004 – Springfield College’s Meg Young
is the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Runner of the Week in women’s cross country, announced today.
, a junior from Hurley, N.Y.
, finished 13th overall out of 255 runners at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass., last Saturday. Despite the poor weather conditions, she covered the five-kilometer course in 19:02, and was the only NEWMAC runner to place in the top-20.
In the Pride’s first meet of the 2004 season, Young placed third at the Amherst College Invitational (Sept. 11). It was her best finish since her fourth-place showing at the 2003 NEWMAC Championship Meet (Nov. 1). Young also finished 29th at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Championships (Nov. 15) and 63rd at the NCAA Division III National Championships (Nov. 22) last season.

Jim Pennington enters his 28th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2011-2012. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
