



Springfield, Mass. -- October 19, 2011 -- Josh Carter, senior quarterback of the Springfield College football team, has been named the ECAC Division III North Offensive Player of the Week, and Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of games played October 15. He has also been named one of six players nationally as a BSN Offensive Player of the Week. And today, he was named the winner of the Gold Helmet Award by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston.Springfield defeated Ithaca College, 38-33, Saturday, and is now 4-2 on the season overall, 2-2 in the conference.
It is the second time this season that Carter, a native of Marlborough, Mass., has been named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week. He also earned the honor in a game played on September 10 when the Pride defeated Frostburg State, 48-24.
In the contest versus Ithaca, Carter ran for a career-high 224 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed five passes in 11 attempts for 97 yards and one further touchdown. Carter's rushing touchdowns were of 47, 19, and 56 yards. His passing TD was of 38 yards to junior wide receiver Phil Baier (Braintree, Mass.). Carter also had a 61-yard rush in the fourth quarter. Carter was not intercepted, nor did he fumble.
Carter averaged 14.93 yards per carry on the day.
Springfield will next host St. John Fisher Saturday, October 22 at 2 pm at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field. It will be Springfield's final home game of the year, making it Senior Day for the Pride. SC will finish the year with away games at Hartwick, at Utica, and at Union the following three consecutive weeks.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
