Springfield Football Selected to Place Second in Preseason Liberty League Poll

Head Coach Mike DeLong Springfield, Mass. -- August 27, 2012 -- The Springfield College football team has been selected to finish second in the preseason Liberty League coaches poll. The poll was announced today by the league office. This is Springfield College's first year in the Liberty League as an associate member in football only.

Hobart placed first in the poll with 49 points and seven first-place votes (unanimous). Springfield was second with 40 points and the one remaining first-place vote.

The rest of the poll was led by Union with 36 points, followed by RPI with 31 points, then Rochester (25), St. Lawrence (17), and Merchant Marine and WPI (tied with 13 points each).

Springfield opens its 2012 season with a non-conference game at home Saturday night (Sept. 1) against Bridgewater State at Amos Alonzo Stagg Field at 7 pm.

Head Coach Mike DeLong

Head Coach Mike DeLong Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
