Nichols Holds Off Men's Soccer, 2-1

Dudley, Mass. – September 7, 2013 – The Springfield College men’s soccer team outshot Nichols on Saturday afternoon, but the Bison edged the Pride, 2-1 in non-conference play.

Nichols (2-0-1) scored two goals within 2:35 of each other in the first half to take an early lead. Sophomores Brady Boisvert (Plainfield, N.H.) and Tiago Prazeres (West Hartford, Conn.) each tallied a goal.

Springfield’s Drew Sommer (West Chester, Pa.) scored his second goal in as many games, providing a second half spark for the Pride. Sommer cut in from the left side and banged a shot past Nichols’ goalie Jeremy Nash (West Springfield, Mass.) and into the top right corner with 13:37 left in regulation to put Springfield on the board.

Sommer had another opportunity in the 87th minute and Kevin Nowak (Plainsboro, N.J.) in the 89th minute, but Nash made saves on both shots to preserve the lead.

The Pride played on the road on back-to-back days and came out with a 1-1-0 record. Springfield edged Nichols in shots, 22-20. Sophomore Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) recorded seven saves in goal for Springfield. Nash finished with nine saves for Nichols.

The Pride will be back in action on Wednesday, hosting Eastern Nazarene at 7 p.m. in the first home game of the season.
