



SPRINGFIELD, Mass. , Oct. 1, 2005 – Springfield College senior Angela Giles (Concord, N.H.) came away with the sole victory on the afternoon for the Pride as SC fell to MIT, 8-1, on Saturday, October 1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action at the Appleton Courts.
After dropping the first set, 6-3, Giles bounced back and took the second set, 6-4. To decide the third set, Giles played her opponent, Jusleen Karve in a super tie-breaker. Giles prevailed by the score of 10-5. for the win at #6 singles.
SC falls to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in the NEWMAC. As for MIT, the Engineers improve to 4-2 and 4-1 in conference play. SC next will host Mount Holyoke College in a NEWMAC match on Tuesday afternoon, October 4, in a 4:00 p.m. start at the Appleton Courts.
Doubles:
Toby Coffin G’01, enters his second year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
