



Complete ResultsMiddlebury, Vt. -- April 7, 2012 -- Crystal Davis and Kelly Curtis had first-place finishes to lead their Springfield College women's track & field team to a third-place standing at a three-way meet at Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon.
Middlebury placed first with 147 points, Bowdoin second with 138, and Springfield third with 109.
Davis, a junior from Hartford, Conn., had a great day by winning both the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. In the 100 meters, she had a time of 12.68 seconds, finishing right in front of freshman teammate Elizabeth Saia of Wallingford, Conn. in second with her time of 12.82.
In the 200, Davis placed first with a time of 26.24 seconds, a good 42 one-hundredths ahead of her nearest competitor.
Davis also contributed to the winning 4x400 relay team. Springfield "A" placed first with a time of 4:07.65, about 7 1/2 seconds ahead of Middlebury. Davis ran lead-off, followed by sophomore Jenn Kapinos (Agawam, Mass.), sophomore Gabriella Gaudreault (Leominster, Mass.), and Saia.
Curtis, a senior from Princeton, N.J., placed first in the javelin (124-06), and second in the shot put (35-10). She also took a third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.86 seconds.
There were further Top Five finishes for SC as a team. In the 5000-meter run, freshman Nora Letendre (Northampton, Mass.) finished fifth at 19:20.16. Also in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Abby Clark (Holderness, N.H.) placed right behind Curtis in fourth at 16.33, and freshman Alisha Ciolek (Belchertown, Mass.) was fifth in 16.64.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, senior Alex Mustardo (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) placed second with a time of 12.34.61. And freshman Emily Rund (Enfield, Conn.) was third in 13:39.71.
In the high jump, sophomore Elizabeth Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) was fifth at 4-11. Curtis was sixth, also at 4-11. In the pole vault, junior Rhiann Duggan (Northboro, Mass.) was fourth in 9-4 1/4, and junior Heather Lefaivre (Cumberland, R.I.) was fifth in 8-4 1/4.
In the long jump, freshman Amanda Martin (Bistol, Conn.) was second with a leap of 16-5. In the triple jump, Duggan placed fourth in 30-7 1/2, while freshman Brianna Hill (Somersworth, N.H.) was fifth in 30-1 1/2.
In the shot put, behind Curtis's second-place finish, sophomore Amber Judge (Orange, Mass.) was third in 34-4 3/4, while senior Michelle Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) was fifth in 33-7 1/2.
In the women's discus, Angelo took fifth again with a toss of 100-feet even. In the hammer throw, junior Colleen Brague (Smithfield, R.I.) finished third at 120-3, Angelo was fourth at 119-2..
Finally, in the javelin, behind Curtis's first, Brague placed third at 120-5, and freshman Haley Regan (Sheldon Springs, Vt.) was fourth at 118-even.
Jim Pennington enters his 29th season as head coach of the Springfield College women’s cross country and track and field teams in 2012-2013. Under Pennington’s direction, the Pride has recorded seven top 20 finishes at the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and seven top 15 finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
