



North Adams, Mass. -- April 26, 2012 -- The Springfield College men's tennis team handed MCLA a 6-3 defeat in a non-conference match today.SC began by defeating MCLA, 3-0, in doubles play.
The No. 1 pairing of junior Ben Burnap (Westerly, R.I.) and freshman Alex Orban (Milford, Conn.) took care of MCLA's Dan Nesti and Taylor Krowitz, 8-4. At No. 2, it was senior Doug Nickerson (Falmouth, Me.) and junior Zac Goldstein (Shelton, Conn.) running by Amory Galili and Joseph Whitehouse, 8-2. And at No. 3 doubles, it was senior Zach O'Leary (Westboro, Mass.) and senior Sean Seifert (Chicopee, Mass.) shutting out Mitchell Mabardy and Brendan Peltier, 8-0.
The two teams, however, split singles play. The SC winners came at No. 2, 5, and 6 singles. They included sophomore Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2; Goldstein with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5; and freshman Cody Rodrigues (Westfield, Mass.) with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
