Football Ushers in Homecoming with St. Lawrence on Saturday

Springfield College Football Springfield, Mass. – October 24, 2013 – The Springfield College football team will be back on the field on Saturday after an unplanned week off. It’s Springfield College's homecoming game and the Pride will host St. Lawrence for a 1:30 kickoff.

Last week…
The Pride had its game at Merchant Marine postponed last Saturday due to the government shutdown.

Springfield hangs at 3-3 overall and 0-3 in league-play. The Pride last played on October 12th, falling to nationally-ranked Hobart, 49-21.

A season ago…
Last season was the first time that the Pride had played St. Lawrence since 1946 and Springfield came away with a 33-20 win in the match up. Springfield spotted the Saints an early 7-0 lead, but the Pride then scored 26 unanswered points, and led 26-7 at the half. Jonathan Marrero (Boston, Mass.) led the Pride with 103 yards and 2 TD's rushing in just his fourth start at quarterback.

The Pride put up 342 rushing yards to St. Lawrence’s 112 in the win, but the Saints had 240 passing yards in the game, holding a 352-342 edge in total offense.

National Ranks…
Springfield is ranked No. 5 in the country in Division III football for rushing yards per game (317.8). The Pride also ranks 13th in the nation in tackles for loss, averaging nine per game. Individually, Danny Macalena (Congers, N.Y.) is ranked eighth nationally in tackles for loss per game. The junior is averaging 2.3 per game.

All-time series vs. St. Lawrence…
Springfield owns a 3-1 edge in the all-time series against St. Lawrence. The Pride earned a 33-20 win last season against the Saints.

About St. Lawrence…
The Saints are 5-1 on the season and unbeaten in the Liberty League at 3-0. They are on a three-game win streak, notching wins over Union (30-20), Rochester (14-10), and last week, they beat Rensselaer, 20-13.

The Saints’ junior quarterback, Mike Lefflbine threw for three touchdowns in last week’s win over RPI.
