Wrestling Earns National Scholar Team Award, Five Grapplers Named Academic All-Americans
Springfield, Mass.- March 11, 2010
-- The Springfield College wrestling team
has been ranked highly on the National Scholar teams list by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Springfield College ranks eighth in the country with a 3.37 GPA (see how that is calculated below). Springfield has also placed third in the NEWA Conference with an overall team GPA of 3.13.
The Pride also has five outstanding scholar athletes that were awarded the title of Academic All-American, including junior Eddie Giron (133 lbs.) (Bethpage, N.Y.), junior Blaze Chatham (141) (Walkill, N.Y.), junior Steve Flathers (149) (Stratford, Conn.), junior John Archambeau (157) (Ludlow, Mass.), and sophomore Ronald Thompson (165) (Stamford, Conn.). This is the second such award for Flathers.
The NWCA team GPA is calculated as an average of the top ten students on each team. At least six of the ten athletes chosen must have competed in the NCAA qualifying tournament and the other athletes must have competed in 50% of the team's scheduled contests.
