



Springfield, Mass. - January 19, 2009 - Springfield divers Brian Sobel and Michelle Reggio were honored once again for another terrific weekend of performances as they were each named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) as well as the ECAC Divers of the Week. For Reggio, it was her second NEWMAC honor this season, while for Sobel, it was his fifth conference accolade.Reggio continued to excel this weekend as she performed well against NYU and Coast Guard and MIT. In the Pride's win over NYU, Reggio took the 1-meter event with 269.46 points. Reggio also won the 1-meter in the tri-meet over Coast Guard and MIT with a 261.66 and took the 3-meter with a 261.98.
Sobel had another standout week for the Pride as he continued to dominate the diving events this year. As the Pride tied nationally ranked NYU, Sobel established a school record in the 3-meter dive with 347.25 points. The old record was set by former SC national champion Mike Shaw in 2006 with a point total of 344.10. Sobel also captured the 1-meter dive with a point total of 277.35. Sobel also swept the competition in the tri-meet over Coast Guard and MIT as he tallied a 334.50 on the one-meter and a 340.65 on the one-meter.

John Taffe enters his 25th season in 2013-2014 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III.Read more.
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013.
