Men's Track & Field Second At Coast Guard Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn., Jan. 24, 2004 – Springfield College sophomore
Billy King (Wilmington, Mass.) won both the 55-meter dash (6.75) and the 200-meter dash (23.40) as the Pride finished second at the Coast Guard Invitational on Saturday.
Coast Guard won the event with 210 points, edging the Pride, which was second with 209. Kings Point (118), Eastern Conn. (81) and Conn College (16) rounded out the field.

Paul Jaroszewicz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) took first place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.04.
Other winners for the Pride on Saturday included junior
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.), who won the long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 11.75 inches, and junior
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) who won the shot put with a 50 foot, 2.5 inch toss. SC's 4 X 200-meter relay team of King, sophomore
Chris Keyser (West Newbury, Mass.), Jaroszewicz and senior
Art Fredericks (Wallingford, Conn.) came in first with an ECAC Division Indoor Championships qualifying time of 1:33.52.
Springfield College is at the West Point Invitational on Saturday, January 31.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
