Women's Track and Field Competes at Ramapo Invitational

Mahwah, N.J. - March 30, 2013 - The Springfield College women’s track and field team opened up its outdoor portion of the season competing at the Ramapo Invitational on Saturday.

Springfield’s standout Laurie Jenkins was the only member for the Pride to win an individual event as she placed first in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.98 seconds. She followed that up with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 1:00.87. Springfield also captured a win in the 4x400 meter relay, as the group of Darian Dailey, Crystal Davis, Jessica Miller, and Gabriella Gaudreault teamed up for a time of 4:05.22.

Other Pride runners to place in the top of their events included Davis with a second place finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.79 seconds. In the 100 meter hurdles, Erin Womboldt took second, clocking in at 16.45 seconds, and Elizabeth Footit placed second in the 3000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line at 12:35.39.

Gaudreault also placed second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:48.60. The Pride's 4x100 meter relay team of Davis, Dailey, Jenkins, and Elizabeth Saia was the runner up after posting a time of 49.27 seconds.

Others that ran well for the Pride were Miller and Saia in the 200 meter dash, with Miller clocking in at 27.01 for fifth place and Saia finishing sixth at 27.43. In the 100 meter dash, Saia was also able to capture third at 12.83 seconds.

In the 800 meter, Samantha Pomroy produced a time of 2:27.72, good for fifth, while in the 100 meter hurdles, Heather Lefaivre took fifth at 17.16. Bethany Young also placed in two events events as she used a time of 1:11.66 to grab fourth place in the 400 meters and took eighth in the 100 meters at 18.21. Emily Rund placed fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:26.81.

The Pride had many members who performed well in the field events. In the pole vault, Rhian Duggan registered a height of 3.05 meters for fourth, and Lefaivre finished seventh with a 2.60 meters. Dailey (fourth place) and Miller (seventh place) excelled in the long jump with marks of 5.24 meters and 4.91 meters, respectively.

Dailey also scored in the triple jump, placing sixth with a leap of 10.11, while Brianna Hill placed fifth with 10.16 meters, and Elizabeth Robitaille would go on to place seventh in the high jump at 1.43 meters. Colleen Brague also had a strong day for the Pride, with a second place finish in the javelin at 36.98 meters and a sixth place finish in the hammer throw at 36.54 meters.

The Pride will be home next Saturday to host Middlebury and Bowdoin at Blake Track on Springfield’s campus.
