



Box ScoreEwing, N.J. - November 13, 2010 - The Springfield College women's soccer team's season came to a close on Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 1-0 decision to Ithaca College in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship at The College of New Jersey. The Pride had its nine-match winning streak snapped as it closes the season with a 15-5 record.
Junior midfielder Megan Trager netted the game’s only goal with 31:35 remaining as she capped off a furious flurry by the Bombers resulting in the score.
Ithaca came within inches of scoring seconds earlier as sophomore Rachael Palladino banged a shot off the post that went directly to Caroline Jastremski, who had her rebound attempt blocked. Freshman Ellyn Grant-Keane then collected the ball and sent a pass across the top of the penalty area to Trager who finished the play. The goal was her fifth of the season.
The Bombers carried play throughout the game and had several scoring chances Grant-Keane and Julie Winn each had shots that hit the post. The Pride’s best chance came in the second half as Katie Mantie found a shooting lane inside the Ithaca area, but Bomber goalie Jessica Platt stepped out and denied her bid. Platt finished with seven saves as she picked up her fifth shutout of the season.
In goal for Springfield, Erin Greenstein made five stops.
John Gibson, a native of London, England, enters his 14th season as head women's soccer at Springfield College in the fall of 2013. Gibson has led the Pride to the NCAA Tournament in six of the last eight years and has established the Pride as one of the top programs in the country. His clubs have registered an impressive a 165-75-21 record.
