SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - April 30, 2002 - Springfield College first-year head coach David Yelle was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year while five SC players were voted to the all-conference team by the head coaches of the conference. The Pride won its first NEWMAC title and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the conference tournament Sunday on Benedum Field.

Yelle has led the Pride to a school-record 12-4 mark, including a 6-0 record in NEWMAC play. After losing four of its first six contests, Springfield has won 10-straight games, entering the NCAA Tournament.

Senior forward Danica Ansardy (Woodstock, Vt.) was named All-NEWMAC for the second year in a row. The Pride's leading goal scorer this season, Ansardy finished eighth in the NEWMAC with 55 points (50 goals, 5 assists) and is two points shy of becoming SC's all-time leading scorer with 161 (141 goals, 20 assists) points to date.

Junior defender Lindsay Reiniger (Rochester, N.Y.) earned all-conference honors after leading the NEWMAC in assists, and finishing 12th with 43 points (16 goals, 27 assists). She needs four assists to become Springfield's all-time leader, and is the seventh in school history with 107 points (56 goals, 51 assists).

Freshman Erin Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished first for SC with 53 ground balls and fifth with 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists). She joined sophomore Kerry Hausdorf (Queens, N.Y.) on the all-conference team and were the Pride's top two defenders on a unit that held its opposition to a NEWMAC-low 7.6 goals per game.
