Swimming & Diving Sweeps Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass., Oct. 29, 2003 -- The SC men's and women's swimming & diving teams opened the 2003-2004 campaign with convincing victories at Division I Holy Cross on Wednesday night.
The SC men, which placed 16th at last season's NCAA Division III Championships, posted a 140-84 win. On the women's side, the Pride, which is coming off a 15th-place finish at the NCAAs in '02-'03, rolled to a 134-104 triumph.

Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.) had a terrific opening night, winning the 200-yard IM (2:04.16) and swimming legs on two victorious relays. Junior
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) won two events: the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.75) and the 1000 freestyle (10:36.34). Sophomore All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) swept the one and three-meter dives.

Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) led the SC women by swimming to first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.71) and the 200 backstroke (2:12.94). She also swam on the winning 400 medley relay (4:14.17). Senior
Beth Byron (Haverhill, Mass.) won the 200 breastroke (2:34.44) and joined Skinner on the 400 medley relay team.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
