Boxscore

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 4, 2006 – Springfield College junior forward Tony Distasio (Burlington, Conn.) scored his second goal of the season and added two assists as the Pride defeated Bridgewater State College, 3-1, in non-conference play this evening at Brock-Affleck Field.

With the win, the Pride snaps a three-match losing streak and improves to 3-7-2. The Bears fall to 3-5-1 overall on the season.

Bridgewater State got on the board early, scoring in the ninth minute of action (8:34), as senior midfielder Patrick Nash netted a shot off a feed from freshman back Dominic Sciara to give the Bears a 1-0 edge. The score would remain at 1-0 throughout the remainder of the first 45 minutes despite SC’s many opportunities to provide the equalizer. The Pride outshot the Bears by a 7-3 margin in the opening stanza.

In the eighth minute of the second half (52:19), SC finally got on the board as freshman forward Adrian Schippers (Ashby, Mass.) netted his fifth goal of the year off a feed from Distasio. Just over seven minutes later, junior forward Colin Cook (Wilbraham, Mass.) also added his fifth goal of the season, assisted once again by Distasio, to give the Pride a lead it would not relinquish.

In the 76th minute of play (75:23), Distasio netted an insurance goal, his second score of the season, as Cook was credited with his third assist of the year.

In goal for SC, junior B.J. Sturdivant (Bear, Del.) made four saves in upping his overall record to 2-3-1 on the season. Bridgewater State goalkeeper John Naughton played well in net for the Bears despite the loss, stopping nine shots.

The Pride will next host Clark University on Friday night, October 6th, in a 7:00 p.m. New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
