



Complete ResultsSpringfield, Mass. - April 23, 2011 -The Springfield College men’s track and field team competed well Saturday at the Springfield Invitational as it finished in second place out of 10 teams competing with 154.5 points overall.
The MIT men won the event with 218.5 points. Westfield State (92.5), the College of St. Rose (74), and Keene State (50) rounded out the top-five.
The Pride men put points on the board early with a victory in the 4x100 meter relay. The group of Tom Brognano, Nickel Hay, Kyle Brown, and David Seronick finished with a time of 43.31 seconds for the win. Hay was one of the top overall performers for Springfield, as he went on to finish first in the 100 meter dash and second in the 200 meter dash. In the 100 meter, Hay sprinted to an 11.05 second time for a narrow victory. In the 200 meter event, he finished second easily in 22.41 seconds to earn points.
Springfield had several other contributors in the track events. In the 1500 meter run, the Pride placed four runners in the top eight. Troy French finished in second at 4:02.36, Ryan O’Connell came in third at 4:03.65, Zach Pietras snagged sixth at 4:04.94, and Stephen Creamer finished in seventh with a time of 4:05.75. The Pride men also excelled in the 200 meter dash event, finishing with three athletes in the top six. Christopher Quetant came in right behind Hay, finishing third at 22.76 seconds, and Kevin Behlmer grabbed sixth place with a time of 23.37 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, Alex Harrington finished in fifth with a time of 51.88 seconds and Fernando Beltran earned seventh place at 52.40 seconds. Harrington also contributed in the 4x400 meter relay, teaming up with Steven Gilfeather, Greg Coleman, and Ryan Allison for third place. The foursome finished in 3:32.29.
Dylan Peterson was a multiple point scorer for the Pride, placing fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.02 and sixth in the 110 meter hurdles at 17.37 seconds. Sean Nunan also ran well in the 400 meter hurdles, taking second place and clocking in at 56.54 seconds.
In the 5000 meter distance event, Alex Murray took third place with a time of 15:56.18 and Matt Scully finished in fifth at 16:03.14. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Corey Hamel finished in eighth with a time of 11:24.95.
In the field events, Springfield continued to perform well. Kevin Coyle was the Pride’s top finisher as he continued his excellence in the long jump. Coyle took first place with a leap of 22’11.25”. He was joined in the points by Dylan Brock, who finished second at 20’6.25”, and Andrew Bean, who finished sixth at 20’1”.
The Pride men also received great efforts from Ryan Ux and Parker Ashton-Youngs in the javelin throw. Ux came in second with a toss of 190’4”, and Ashton-Youngs finished in fourth at 182’6”. In the high jump, Springfield saw three top-six performers. Emil Occhiboi finished in third with a jump of 6’3.25”, William Ferguson took fourth at 6’1.25”, and Kevin Ross earned sixth place at 5’11.25”.
Springfield also placed three athletes in the top eight of the shot put event. Joe Bonano and Orlando Harvey finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and Jonathan Nardi earned the eighth place points. Bonano threw 43’9.25” while Harvey went for 43’0.25” and Nardi measured in at 42’8”.
Others that scored for the Pride men included Nick Hogan in the hammer throw. Hogan finished with a toss of 148’5”. In the discus event, Michael Cataldo came in seventh with a measurement of 126’ even and Kyle Erland wrapped up the Pride scoring with an eighth place finish in the triple jump, leaping 37’5.75”.
Springfield heads to New London, Connecticut for the NEWMAC Championships next Saturday.
