Shaw Earns All-America Honors At NCAA Championship

ATLANTA, Ga., March 22, 2003 - Springfield College freshman diver
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) earned All-America honors to lead the Pride to a 16th-place finish with a total of 58 points at the NCAA Divison III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships at Emory University in Atlanta.
Shaw finished third on the three-meter board (463.85 points) and sixth in the one-meter dive (418.35). Senior
Dan Bartholomew (Willits, Calif) placed 15th on the three-meter board (375.15 points) and 16th on the one-meter (345.15 points).
SC sophomore
Louis Arruda (W. Warwick, R.I.) placed ninth in the 200 freestyle (in a school record time of 1:41.20), 19th in the 200 butterfly (1:54.92) and 21st in the 500 freestyle (also a school-record time, 4:40.64). Freshman
Dan Moran (Wilbraham, Mass.) finished 12th in the 200 butterfly (1:53.72).
SC's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Arruda, Moran, senior
Craig Dolan (Edison, N.J) and sophomore
Blake Leshnick (Suffern, N.Y.) swam to an 11th-place finish in a time of 6:56.03. This same team took home a 21st-place finish in the 200 yard medley relay (1:37.49).

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
