The Pride, which is ranked second nationally, defeated two AVCA Coaches D-III Top-15 schools in No. 5 MIT and No. 3 UC Santa Cruz.
In his first match of the week against the MIT Engineers, Perez tallied eight kills hitting 582, while racking up eight digs and five blocks for Springfield. After nailing 15 kills against the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, the Naranjito, Puerto Rico native posted another 14 kills with a .591 attack percentage against Division II Lees-McRae to win the Classic.
For his efforts, Perez was named MVP of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Morgan Classic, which Springfield won for the first time in the Classic's 25-year history.
For the week, the freshman had 3.7 kills and 1.9 digs per set and hit .444. This is the 18th time a Springfield men's volleyball player has been named a Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week, with the most recent coming the week of April 10, 2010 when Alberto Bravo garnered the award.
