Pennington Qualifies For NCAA Finals In 50 Free With Second-Fastest Prelim Time
Indianapolis, Ind.-- March 21, 2012
-- Kellie Pennington
of the Springfield College women's swimming & diving team has qualified for the finals of the 50-yard freestyle in today's first day of the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium.
A sophomore from Monson, Mass., Pennington entered this event with the fastest Division III time in the nation at 23.09 seconds. In today's prelims, she swam a time of 23.18 seconds, finishing .32 seconds behind senior Claire Pavlak of Emory College (22.86). Pennington's time of 23.18 tied junior Christie Raleigh of Rowan for second.
The finals of the 50-free will be conducted later tonight.
The Pride's 200 medley relay team of Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, Caroline Kosciusko, Kaitlin Reilly, and Pennington also competed this afternoon. The squad combined for a time of 1:48.28, which was 21st fastest out of 31 teams competing in the event. The group had originally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a time of 1:46.99.
