Men's Swimming and Diving Finished Third at ECAC's

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – December 1, 2007 -- The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team had a solid overall performance en route to a third place finish at the ECAC Winter Championships this weekend.

Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda) registed the 25th most points by an individual on the men's side in the meet. Burch placed second in the 50 freestyle (21.33), and fourth in the100 freestyle (47.46) for the Pride. Teammate Matt Manoni (Brookfield, Conn.) recorded 10th-place finishes in the in 50 freestyle (21.89), and the 100 freestyle (48.32).

Greg Pearsall (Litchfield, Conn.) touched 11th in the 50 freestyle (21.89), and 14th in the 100 freestyle (48.39) for Springfield, while Andrew Blakesley (West Springfield, Mass.) finished sixth in the 500 freestyle (4:52.63) and 11th in the 100 freestyle (48.35).

Also having nice showings for the Pride was Justin Zook (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who finished eighth in the 200 backstroke (2:00.84), and 12th in the 100 backstroke (56.17). Ryan Mackstutis (Torrington, Conn.) registered 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.48), and 15th in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.86).

On the one-meter board, Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) led the Pride with a fourth place finish with a score of 406.90. He was followed by teammates Brian Sobol (Stratford, Conn.) in fifth (393.90), Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) in sixth (393.20), and Michael Osborne (Middletown, Conn.) in seventh (363.65).

On the three-meter, Casavant registered a fifth-place finish (411.40) to pace the Pride. Sobol placed sixth (405.65), Fitzgerald finished seventh (401.90), and Osborne eighth (364.95).

The 200-freestyle relay team of Burch, Manoni, Blakesley, and Pearsall finished fourth in 1:25.81. In the 400-freestyle relay, Burch, Blakesley, Pearsall, and Anthony Bruno (Southbury, Conn.) teamed up to finish with a time of 3:12.10.

The 800-freestyle relay also finished fourth as Zook, Pearsall, Manoni, and Blakesley touched in 7:12.57

The Pride will head north next Saturday, Dec. 8, to square off against Middlebury.
