SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 13, 2004 - Springfield College junior All-American
Mike Shaw (Westfield, Mass.) posted national qualifying scores in the one and three-meter diving to lead the Pride to a 172.5-121.5 victory over Division I University of Rhode Island in Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Shaw, the defending Division III national champion in three-meter diving, scored a 286.20 on the one-meter board and 302.33 in three-meter diving to win both events. Senior
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) won the 200 free (146.61), the 100 butterfly (52.39), and 200 butterfly (155.89). He was also a part of SC’s 400 freestyle relay along with freshman
Roy Burch (Warwick, Bermuda), sophomore
Chris LeCompte (Londonderry, N.H.), and
Jeff Doornweerd (Meriden, Conn.). Burch was also victorious in the 100 backstroke (55.33) and the 50 free (21.76).
On the women’s side, the Pride fell by a score of 161-139. SC freshman
Dana Allen (Agawam, Mass.) also posted national qualifying scores in one and three-meter diving as well with scores of 247.04 and 270.23, respectively. Senior All-American
Megan Skinner (Acton, Mass.) was victorious in the 500 free (5:17.66) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.44).
For the Rams, senior
Jodi Tveitmoe won her 1000 free (10:49.55) and 200 butterfly (2:10.99) events. Freshman
Julianna Kent won the 200 free (2:01.54) while senior
Ginny Sorrell won the 100 breastroke (1:08.85)

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
