Niemiec Leads Men's Track & Field at New England Division III Championship

Alex Niemiec Complete Results

Cambridge, Mass. – February 23, 2014 - Springfield College's Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) posted impressive performances in three events to help lead the men’s track and field team to a 13th-place finish with 19 points at the New England Division III Track & Field Championships at MIT.

Niemec won the high jump, posting a height of 6’ 7.75”, just out-jumping Steven Vazquez of Rhode Island College and Adam Jones of UMass-Dartmouth. The first-year posted a time of 6.92 in the 60m race to take second place.

Graduate student Ryan O’Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) placed eighth in the mile run, posting a time of 4:18.41. Ryan Widzgowski of Keene State was the top finisher in this event, finishing with a time of 4:11.38.

O'Connell and Niemiec both earn All-New England Division III accolades with their performances on Saturday.

The Pride will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 28 when they will travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the All New England Championships.
