Men's Track & Field Is 26th At New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass., May 8, 2004 – Springfield College men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams finished 26th and 32nd, respectively, at the New England Championships held Friday and Saturday at Northeastern University.
The University of Rhode Island captured the men’s title, while Boston College prevailed on the women’s side.
On the men’s side, junior
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I.) placed fourth in the shot put (16.25 m). Freshman
Chris Allen (Sandwich, Mass.) finished seventh in the high jump (1.96 m) while senior
Jason Mandolesi (Wilbraham, Mass.) placed seventh in the discus throw (43.68 m). All three were named to the All-New England team.
For the women, junior
Leah Sullivan (Northboro, Mass.) finished seventh in the discus throw (39.78 m), and sophomore
Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.)placed eighth in 100 meters (12.67), marking the first time in nearly a decade that an SC sprinter reached the finals in that event. Both Sullivan and Goris earned All-New England honors.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
