Men's Track & Field Opens Indoor Season At Northeastern Invitational

BOSTON, Dec. 4, 2004- Springfield College senior All-American
Matt Acciaioli (Warwick, R.I) opened the 2004-2005 season with a second and third place finish at the Northeastern Invitational on Saturday.
Acciaioli placed second in the shot put (50 feet, 5.25 inches) and third in the weight throw (48-3.25) amongst a field of competitors that included Division I and II schools.
Senior All-American
Blake Gulino (Old Saybrook, Conn.) leaped to second place in the long jump with a distance of 22-8.5.
Sophomore
Jeff Cogan (Walworth, N.Y.) placed sixth in the triple jump (43-10) while senior All-American
Justin Welch (Woburn, Mass.) and sophomore
Chris Allen (Sandwich, Mass.) placed sixth (6-4) and seventh (6-2), respectively, in the high jump.

Ken Klatka, just inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame in October, 2011, enters his 37th season as head coach of the men’s track and field program in 2012-2013. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 442 wins, 144 losses, and two ties for an impressive .753 winning percentage. Under his direction, Kevin Coyle '12 won the 2011 Division III Indoor Long Jump National Championship.
