



Springfield, Mass. - March 11, 2009 - The Springfield College field hockey team was recently recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for their efforts in the classroom. Springfield earned a grade point average as a team above a 3.0 and was awarded the NFHCA Division III National Academic Team Award.Springfield also experienced a great deal of success on the field as well this year as it captured its fifth-straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth-consecutive season. SC was led by 2008 Dita/NFHCA New England East Region Coach of the Year Melissa Rogers and All-America Second Team selection Jane Kelleher.
After eight years as head coach of the Pride, Melissa Sharpe, has continued the SC tradition of winning on the field hockey turf, posting an impressive 120-58 record, good for a winning percentage of .674 at the helm of her alma mater. Read more.
