24th nationally in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Division III U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings in their just-released Final Winter Report. Springfield had also been ranked 24th in the Mid-Winter Report that NACDA had released two weeks ago. There are a total of 422 NCAA Division III schools.
In this report, men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's swimming & diving were added.
Springfield College has now accumulated 298.50 points. That's 61.50 more points than in the last report. All of those added points were provided by men's swimming & diving. Broken down, Springfield scored a total of 120 points in the fall, and 178.5 points in the winter.
Washington (Mo.) is the new Division III leader with 693.50 points. Spring season is all that remains.
The Sports Academy Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The United States Sports Academy, based in Daphe, Alabama, is the program sponsor. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports -- nine men's and nine women's.
