Men's Lacrosse Trio Lands Preseason Honors
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Jan. 28, 2003 – Springfield College sophomore
Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.), and senior
Sean Harrington (Suffern, N.Y.) were named second and third team All-Americans, respectively, while junior
Adam Cost (Camillus, N.Y.) earned honorable mention honors as Insidelacrosse.com announced its preseason All-America teams.
Brown was the lone underclassman to be named to the 36-man preseason All-America list. He returns after garnering honorable mention All-America and Pilgrim League Player and Rookie of the Year honors last spring. Brown was the highest scoring freshman in the nation with his team-best 76 points (47 goals, 29 assists).
Harrington, a 2004 captain, anchored a defense that held its opponents to 7.74 goals per game last spring. In 10-consecutive victories, which included the Pride’s third Pilgrim Lacrosse League Title and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament in four years, the SC defense held its opposition to eight or fewer points in each game.
Cost, who finished fourth on the team with 34 points (25 goals, 9 assists), returns to an offense that welcomes back its top-12 scorers and finished sixth nationally in scoring offense (14.88 gpg) and fifth in scoring margin (7.06 gpg) in 2003.
Last spring, SC, which compiled an 11-5 record that included an unblemished 6-0 league mark, fell at eventual national runner-up Middlebury, 11-9, in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
“This could be one of the deepest teams I’ve ever coached,” said 21st-year head coach
Keith Bugbee, one of only four active coaches with over 200 wins. “We have great leadership from our senior class and a lot of experience from our juniors.
Lacrosse Magazine ranked Springfield No. 15 in its first preseason poll, released December 11.
