Clark Outlasts Women's Basketball, 67-56

Andrea Moschetta Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - January 23, 2013 - Tamara Tribble tallied 16 points and nine rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Clark University women's basketball team held off Springfield College, 67-56, in Blake Arena on Wednesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

The win snaps the Cougars two-game slide as they improve to 10-8, 5-6 in league play. Springfield falls to 3-14, 1-10 with the setback.

Tribble was once again terrific for the Pride, tallying 16 points on 7-of-12 field goal attempts to go along with nine caroms. Jaimie Bickelhaupt came off the bench to contribute 10 points and 10 boards, while Andrea Moschetta registered five points, five assists, and four steals.

Emily Reilly finished with a game-high 17 points to go along with four steals, while Brooke Brennan added 16 points. Ashleigh Condon stuffed her stat sheet with 13 points, five steals, four assists, and four boards, and Megan Grondin delivered 10 points off the bench.

Despite shooting 50% (12-for-24) in the first half, the Pride was hampered by 16 turnovers, which ultimately led to 20 Clark points. Clark was limited to just 28% shooting (9-for-32) but was able to knock down 11 of 13 from the charity stripe.

The hot-shooting was reversed in the second stanza, with the visitors knocking down 52.4% (11-21) of their shots, while the Pride shot just 10-33 (30.3%). Overall, neither team took care of the basketball as the squads combined for 50 turnovers for the entire game.

Springfield raced out to a 13-6 lead at the 16:16 mark after Tribble stole the ball and mid court and converted on a fast-break lay in. Clark would get within 17-14 on a Reilly three-pointer 2:46 later, only to have consecutive jumpers from Emily Taylor and Bickelhaupt push the cushion back to seven for the hosts.

The Cougars buckled down on defense over the next 5:32, using a 7-0 spurt capped off by a trifecta by Esther Cohn to even things at 21-all. A driving left-hand lay in by Briana Freymuth allowed the Pride to snag a 29-24 lead with 2:40 remaining, only to have Clark close out the half on a 8-3 burst to head into the locker room up 32-31.

A triple from Riley Fake and a Heather Lewis mid-range jumper to start the second half gave Springfield a 36-32 lead. Clark once again responded with a key run, using a 12-4 spurt to regain a 44-40 lead on a Annmarie Fransen fast-break bucket at the 15:09 mark.

Tribble's jumper at 9:54 made it a two-point contest at 46-44, but a Condon layup and deep three from Brennan put the Cougars in control for good, up 51-44 with just over seven minutes to play. Springfield would get as close as six on a pair of occasions, but could not complete a comeback.

The Pride will play the final game of its three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when it clashes with Wellesley at 1:00 pm.
