Cambridge, Mass. - April 16, 2011 - – A 9-2 run that spanned both halves lifted visiting Springfield College to a 15-9 victory over MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s lacrosse game on Saturday night.

Kaitlyn Nealon led the Engineers (8-4, 2-2 NEWMAC) with four goals while Jackie Moscardelli racked up a game-high seven points on five goals and two assists for the Pride (8-4, 4-0 NEWMAC).

Moscardelli opened the game with back-to-back goals which were matched by Nealon. The back-and-forth scoring continued throughout the half with MIT’s Laura Wacker connecting on a pass from Katie Kauffman to tie the contest at five at the 7:13 mark. Three minutes later, Moscardelli sparked Springfield’s game-changing run as a 3-1 spurt gave the Pride an 8-6 edge at the intermission.

Goals by Moscardelli and Nicole Soucie quickly increased Springfield’s cushion early in the second stanza. Stephanie Leger redirected a feed from Kauffman, narrowing the gap to three (10-7) with 19:23 left to play. Leger and Wacker both finished with two goals while Leger’s three draw controls put her in a three-way tie for first place on MIT’s career draw control list. In addition to her two assists, Kauffman registered four draw controls as Molly McShane posted two groundballs, one caused turnover, and a goal. Alex Wright notched four draw controls, three groundballs, and a caused turnover while Kelly Duncan added two groundballs. In net, Sarah Ritter collected nine saves.
