Lewis and Thompson Qualify For NCAA National Championship
Troy, N.Y. - March 1, 2014 -
Springfield College divers Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.)
and Jen Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.)
qualified for the NCAA National Championship after strong performances at the Northeast-North Division III Diving Regional in Robison Pool at RPI on Saturday.
The championship meet will be held in Indianapolis from March 19th to March 22nd.
Thompson followed up her third place finish on the three-meter board with another third place finish on the one-meter board on Saturday. The senior posted a score of 469.45, becoming one of seven divers to qualify for nationals.
On Friday, Lewis tied for sixth on the one-meter board and on Saturday, he also took sixth on the three-meter board with a score of 496.80. He is one of eight men to qualify for nationals.
Also diving on the women's side, Melanie Avdoulos (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finished 15th overall with a score of 397.35 while Kyra Breitweiser (Westwood, N.J.) finished 21st with a 363.45.
For the men, Pat Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took 11th overall on the three-meter board with a score of 451.80 while teammate Michael Card (Fairless Hills, Pa.) finished 13th with a mark of 415.10.

Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and will enter his 29th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2013-2014.
