Field Hockey Falls to Middlebury, 2-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Sept. 11, 2004 – Springfield College senior midfielder Alisha Miner (Sanbomton, NH) scored the Pride’s lone goal in its loss to Middlebury College on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11) in non-conference action at Benedum Field.

Middlebury came into Springfield boasting a 1-0 record on the season after having reached the national title game for the past two seasons in Division III.

Pride sophomore goalie Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) recorded 14 saves, while Panther junior goalie Meghan McGillen tallied 16 saves.

After a scoreless first half, Middlebury junior Dana Rye scored the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute of action. SC answered back quickly, as Miner scored her second goal of the season in the 60th minute (59:42) to tie the game. Just 20 seconds later, however, Middlebury senior Ashley Lyddane netted the game-winning score as the Panthers moved to 2-0 overall.

The Pride (3-1) return to action on Thursday, September 15 for yet another non-conference match-up at Connecticut College in a 4:00 p.m. start.
