SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 15, 2003 – Springfield College senior back
Maylese Leyva (Harwich, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with 30:39 left in the second half to lead the second-seeded Pride to a 1-0 win over third-seeded Babson in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Field Hockey Tournament semifinal this afternoon at Benedum Field.
Springfield advances to meet top-seeded Keene State College in the finals tomorrow afternoon in Keene, N.H. at 1:00 p.m.
Leyva’s goal was assisted by senior midfielder
Brianne Tompkins (Stormville, N.Y.) and junior midfielder
Lyida Grant (Granby, Conn.). It was Leyva’s sixth goal of season.
SC junior goalkeeper
Lindsay Pardue (Houston, Texas) made eight saves en route to her seventh shutout of the season.
Springfield College won the ECAC Tournament in 2001.
