Football Continues Work In Community With "Be The Match" and Team IMPACT

Joe Cianciolo Springfield, Mass. - March 7, 2014 - The Springfield College football team is again doing its part to be a part of the community by continuing its work with both Team IMPACT and "Be The Match".

Over the past several years, Springfield College football has worked tirelessly to help raise awareness for the "Be The Match" program and their national bone marrow registry. Recently, junior offensive lineman Joe Cianciolo (Watertown, Conn.) proved to be a match and began the donating process. Last spring, former wide receiver Phil Baier was a match and went through the donation process while doing his internship at the University of Southern California.

Additionally, members of the team and coaching staff will be taking part of an event with their newest teammate, Luke Bradley, who joined the Pride in the spring of 2013 as part of Team IMPACT, which is a non-profit organization chartered to improve the quality of life for children facing life for children facing life-threatening illnesses. Luke has had a continued impact on the Pride since joining the squad, and has been to team lifts, had members of the team visit him at school, and as on the sidelines during home Springfield College football games this fall.

On April 6, 2014, the football program will be members of “Luke’s Lucky Leprechauns” group for an event at Rafters in Amherst, Mass. The event is in support of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, which is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long, healthy lives. St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen and have grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,300 events in 2012, raising critical funds for childhood cancer research.
