Holly Carmody Named NEWMAC Player of the Year; Katie Hawke Garners Coach of the Year Honors

WORCESTER, Mass., May 2, 2006 – Springfield College senior midfielder Holly Carmody (Wayland, Mass.) has been named the 2006 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Year, as voted upon by the conference’s coaches in a meeting this morning at WPI. In the same announcement, Pride head coach Katie Hawke has been named the NEWMAC’s Coach of the Year.

Babson College freshman attacker Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.) has also been voted by the NEWMAC coaches as the 2006 Rookie of the Year. In just her first season, Godfrey finished eighth in the NEWMAC in goals (37) and points (43), while also finishing ninth in draw controls (27) despite missing three and a half games due to injury.

SC’s Carmody, the all-time leader in Springfield College women’s lacrosse history in goals (155) and total points (214), finished the NEWMAC regular-season ranked seventh in caused turnovers (30) and draw controls (38). This past weekend, Carmody scored seven goals while adding an assist to lead the Pride to its second straight NEWMAC Tournament Title. SC will represent the conference in the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament beginning on Wednesday, May 10th. This is the fourth-straight season in which Carmody has been named to an All-NEWMAC Team.
