Men's Soccer, Coast Guard Tie, 0-0, In NEWMAC Opener

Box score

NEW LONDON, Conn., Sept. 27, 2003 -- Springfield College junior keeper Tom Bowden (Havertown, Pa.) recorded his third consecutive shutout, but Coast Guard's Jim McArthur was equal to the task as the Pride and Bears played to a 0-0 double-overtime tie in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

This afternoon's match capped a brilliant week for Bowden, who blanked MCLA, 1-0, over 95 minutes on Tuesday then shutout WNEC, 0-0, in double overtime on Thursday. He made four saves against the Bears, while McArthur stooped three SC shots.

Today's match marks the second consecutive season that the teams have played to a tie in the conference lid-lifter. SC and Coast Guard tied, 1-1, on Brock-Affleck Field in '02.

The Pride is 2-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the NEWMAC, and the Bears are 3-1-3 and 0-0-1.
