



Middletown, Conn. -- October 25, 2010 -- The Springfield College football team has slipped two notches to No. 4 in the New England Division III Football Coaches poll. The Pride now trails Amherst, Williams, and Maine Maritime in the Week #6 rankings.Springfield had been ranked #2 last week, but a 23-14 loss at Ithaca allowed Williams and Maine Maritime to jump ahead of the Pride.
At 5-0, Amherst remains No. 1 with 20 first place votes and 236 points overall. In second is fellow NESCAC school Williams, also at 5-0, with three first-place votes and 212 points. In third is Maine Maritime at 6-1 with 162 points and the lone remaining first-place vote. Springfield is fourth at 5-2 with 147 points. And in fifth is Western New England College at 7-1 with 137 points.
Sixth through 10th are Trinity at 4-1 with 136 points, Norwich at 7-1 with 113 points, Endicott at 6-2 with 64 points, Plymouth State at 6-2 with 61 points, and Framingham State at 6-2 with 48 points.
Springfield is the highest-ranked team with as many as two losses.
Up next, SC will host Hartwick on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 6 pm.

Michael C. “Mike” DeLong ’74 enters his 32nd season as a head football coach in the fall of 2013. He enters his 30th year at Springfield College alone. For the past 28 years, he has been the head coach at Springfield, his alma mater. Mike had also been the head coach at Maine Maritime in Castine, Maine in 1979 and 1980. Read more.
