Ten SC Student-Athletes Earn
Academic Honor
WORCESTER, Mass., March 26, 2003 – Ten Springfield College student-athletes were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Academic Team for the winter season of 2002-2003.
The 10 SC all-academic selections, which are listed below, rank third among the NEWMAC’s 10 institutions.
The 92 NEWMAC All-Academic honorees have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 after the fall 2002 semester, attained at least sophomore standing, and been the member of a varsity team for the entire season.

Springfield College’s all-academic selections are: senior
Carah Dawe (North Dighton, Mass.), junior
Kelly McOmber (Woodbury, Conn.) and sophomore
Kacey Wunsch (Londonderry, N.H.)of the women’s basketball team; sophomore
Louis Arruda (West Warwick, R.I.) of the men’s swimming and diving team; and junior
Andrea Babcock (Wayland, Mass.), sophomore
Anna Chornyak (Ellsworth, Maine), senior
Alison Mellage (Union, N.J.), junior
Claire Mueller (Newburgh, N.Y.), sophomore
Megan Nickerson (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and junior
Kathryn VanDerBeken (Manchester, N.H.) of the women's swimming and diving team.

Head Coach John Taffe
John Taffe enters his 24th season in 2012-2013 as the head coach of the men's and women's swimming teams at Springfield College. Under Taffe’s leadership, the Pride has returned to its status as one of the best collegiate swimming and diving programs in Division III.

Diving Coach Peter Avdoulos
Peter Avdoulos is regarded as one of the top diving coaches in the nation, and is entering his 28th season as the diving coach for both the men's and women's programs in 2012-2013. The current NEWMAC Men's and Women's Diving Coach of the Year, Avdoulos has coached countless All-New England and All-American divers, as well as several National Champions.
