Alex Kampersal, Mike Miller, and Cameron Turchetti Compete in the NCAA Division III Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 27, 2006 – A total of five athletes from Springfield College competed in the 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois this past Thursday through Saturday, May 25-27.

The athletes included Kelsey Bishop and Silvienne Krosendijk on the women’s side, and Alex Kampersal, Mike Miller, and Cameron Turchetti on the men’s side.

Bishop and Krosendijk finished ninth in their particular events. Bishop, a freshman from Warwick, R.I., threw the hammer 163 feet, eight inches. Her ninth-place finish was just seven inches shy of the eighth-place finisher, which would have allowed her to become an All-American.

Krosendijk, a freshman from Seroe Biento, Aruba, also placed ninth in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, four and one-half inches. The ECAC champion in this event, Krosendijk finished just one half-inch shy of eighth and All-America status.

Miller, a sophomore from Storrs, Conn., finished 11th in the decathlon with 6,079 points. Miller, the ECAC champion in the decathlon, had also been 11th after the first day of competition. Turchetti, a junior from South Deerfield, Mass., placed 13th in the javelin with a toss of 184 feet, seven inches (56.26 meters). Kampersal, a junior from Natick, Mass., placed 14th in the shot put with a heave of 51 feet, 11 and three-fourths inches (15.84 meters).

This was the last event in which SC athletes competed during the 2005-2006 academic year.
