Men’s Cross Country Places Fifth at Smith Invitational

Northampton, Mass. - September 7, 2013 – The Springfield College men’s cross country team placed fifth out of 10 teams on Saturday at the Smith College Invitational.

The Pride scored 168 points on the day while Westfield State won the invitational with 36 points.

Joe Geurds (Albany, N.Y.) was the top finisher from Springfield. The junior ran the 5k course in 17:54.30 for 41st overall.

Scott Bushey (Hebron, Conn.) finished 52nd with a time of 18:03.81 and Jake Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.) was behind him with a 57th place finish in 18:07.36.

Jonathen Perkins (Watertown, Conn.) and Brishen Dearborn (Wethersfield, Conn.) rounded out the top five for Springfield, finishing 61st (18:14.37) and 69th (18:31.52), respectively.

Springfield will race again on Saturday, September 21 at the UMass Darmouth Invitational.
