SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Oct. 28, 2003 – Springfield College junior back
Kim Stevens (North Knox, Maine) scored three goals and had an assist as the Pride defeated Smith, 5-0, in its regular-season finale on Benedum Field tonight.
The victory clinches the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season championship for the Pride, which improves to 12-8 and 7-1 in the NEWMAC. This is SC’s fourth regular-season crown since 1998. The Pride also clinched home-field advantage throughout the upcoming eight-team conference tournament that begins on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Betsi Anderson (Wayland, Mass.) made one save to register her first shutout of the season. Anderson was one of nine seniors playing in their final regular-season home match for the Pride.

Maria Russo (Glen Gardener, N.J.) put the Pride on the board with 24:23 left in the first half off a feed from Stevens. Just over five minutes later, Stevens scored her first goal assisted by senior
Julie Winslow (West Falmouth, Mass.) to make it 2-0. She tallied her second midway through the second half, and added a third with 16:34 to play. Junior midfielder

Smith falls to 6-12 and 3-5 in the NEWMAC.
