NYU Nips Men's Swimming & Diving, 151-149

Brooks Farrar Complete Results

Springfield, Mass. -- January 15, 2011 -- Despite good performances from Springfield College's Tim Ramos, Travis Morse, Scott Mackstutis, Brian Sobel, and Brooks Farrar, it was the New York University men's swimming and diving team that eked out a 151-149 victory over the Pride today at SC's Art Linkletter Natatorium.

The meet was not determined until the final relay. In order to pull out a victory, Springfield needed a 1-3 finish in the final 200-yard freestyle relay event. Instead, SC finished 1-4.

The Pride still produced some excellent efforts throughout the afternoon. Ramos finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.44. He also finished first in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.49, and second in the 500 free.

Morse had one of his better days in this still young season. He placed first in the 100 backstroke in 54.90, shaving more than a second off his previous best time of the year. Morse also finished second in the 200 back.

Mackstutis also performed well by winning twice -- once in the 500 free in 22.43, and again in the 100 free with a time of 50 seconds even. Scott also placed second in the 100 fly.

Sobel finished first in the 3-meter diving event with a point total of 325.05. He took second in the 1-meter diving with a score of 314.25.

Sobel took second in the 1-meter behind teammate Brooks Farrar at 320.99. Farrar also placed third in the 3-meter at 268.73.

The Pride ended the meet with the win in the 200-yard free relay. Combining for a winning time of 1:29.18 were Mackstutis, Mike Demellia, Jason Scotto, and Nolan Manley.

Tomorrow, the SC men will travel to MIT to take on MIT and Coast Guard.
