SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- May 3, 2008 – Out of 28 teams that scored at the Division III New England Championships at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy last Friday and Saturday , the Springfield College women's track and field team finished in sixth place.
The Pride finished with 64 points in the Championships, which was won by Williams with 111 points.
A number of student-athletes garnered All-New England status by finishing in eighth place or above in their respective events.
Sophomore Nikki Hay (Norwalk, Conn.) was sensational all weekend as she won the long jump (17-1 3/4), the triple jump (38-4 3/4), finished third in the 100 (12.73), and placed sixth in the 200 (26.43). She was also a part of the fourth-place 4x100 relay (49.93) that was comprised of junior Katie Parente (Torrington, Conn.), sophomore Nicole Reynolds Riverside, R.I.), and freshman Caitlin Breault (Feeding Hills, Mass.).
Senior Jenn McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.) finished third in the 400 with a time of 58.89, while freshman Lacey Cartier(York, Maine) placed sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:18.43.
In the 100 hurdles, senior Ashley Palmer (Holyoke, Mass.) finished in sixth (16.20) and in the high jump, Palmer placed tied for sixth with a height of 4-11.
The 4x400 relay team of Reyonds, senior Sarah Rioux (Turner, Maine), Cartier, and McBride recorded a fourth place finish in a time of 4:03.99
In the other field events, the Pride saw plenty of success as junior Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) finished third in the hammer with a toss of 153-5. Senior Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) also had a solid meet for the Pride as she tied for sixth in the high jump (4-11), and placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 35-1 1/4.
