Coyle Named USTFCCCA Division III National Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year

Coyle Named USTFCCCA Division III National Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year New Orleans, La. -- August 8, 2011 -- Kevin Coyle of Springfield College has been named the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III National Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2011. Coyle, who won the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last March, represents track & field's best in both academics and athletics.

The Bradford, N.H. native had quite the outstanding year capturing the long jump at the Indoor NCAA's in Columbus, Ohio. He also finished fourth in the triple jump indoors.

Outdoors, he finished fourth in the long jump and 10th in the triple jump nationally, thus becoming a three-time All-American in 2010-2011.

He was also named the Most Outstanding Field Performer at the ECAC Outdoor Championships in May.

The junior is a sport management major, and owns a 3.54 GPA. Coyle's award was the second time in the past two years that a Springfield College athlete received a similar USTFCCCA award. Steve Headley was named the USTFCCCA Division III National Indoor Track Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2010..

Meanwhile, besides Coyle, three other Springfield College student-athletes were named Scholar Athletes for the 2011 season. They were seniors Kevin Behlmer (Attleboro, Mass.), Brian Fuller (Ludlow, Mass.), and Christopher Quetant (Milford, Conn.).

In addition, Springfield College was named USTFCCCA All-Academic as a team in the 2010-2011 year.
