Men's Tennis Shuts Down Rhode Island College, 9-0

Springfield, Mass. - March 26, 2013 - In their first home match of the spring season, the Springfield College men's tennis team handled visiting Rhode Island College, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Appleton Courts.

After a week in Puerto Rico for its Spring Break, the Pride returned home to improve to 5-3 on the year with the victory.

Springfield took all three doubles matches, with Alex Orban and Joe Gianelli cruising to an 8-1 win at No. 2.

In the singles competition, the Pride took all six matches in straight sets. Kyle Mersereau prevailed at the top spot for Springfield, 6-1, 7-5, while teammate Ben Burnap snagged the win at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2.

Giannelli produced a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles and Orban took No. 4 by the score of 6-1, 6-3. Zac Goldstein added a win at No. 5, 6-3 and 7-5 and Cody Rodrigues captured No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

The Pride will play at home again on Thursday afternoon when it hosts Hunter at 4:00 pm.
