



Springfield, Mass. -- March 30, 2012 -- Led by junior Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) at No. 1 singles, the Springfield College women's tennis team defeated its counterparts from Salve Regina University of Newport, R.I. 9-0, on a pleasant day this afternoon at the Julius Appleton Courts at SC.Springfield thus raises its record to 6-9, while Salve Regina falls to 8-6. The Pride has now won three in a row, including its last two on its Spring Break trip to Florida.
SC captured doubles play, 3-0. Junior Siana Green (Pomfret, Conn.) won her match at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Salve managed to win one set on the day, at No. 6 singles. Everything else was won by SC in straight sets.

Toby Coffin G’01, enters his third year as the head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Springfield College. Coffin, who has coached at numerous high schools in the area, will look to build a program which will contend for a conference crown.
